Upon two hundred years of colonial rule by the British, the Indian sub-continent was divided by 2-nation theory of Hinduism and Muslimism into three pieces as to call it independence in 1947. The division was so peculiar that a newly named country of Pakistan with its two parts differing each 1200 miles from the other at two opposite sides of the country with its original name of India .
In fact, the fate of Pakistan was ascertained to break into pieces at its birth and the process began from the very infant of the child (dish) country. The rulers, most of who were from the western part, namely the West Pakistan, started step-motherly behavior with the eastern part, namely the East Pakistan , of the country. The people of East Pakistan took very little time to understand this type of neglectfulness from their brothers with whom they struggled from shoulder to shoulder for the so-called independence. These people could realize that they were being deprived and oppressed by their brothers in every respect starting from governing the country, development, education, cultural freedom, democratic rights, industry & commerce and what not. So they started revolting against the Pakistani rulers, and upon several acclivities and declivities, the people of the then East Pakistan , who were majority in number, achieved their democratic right to choose their representatives for governing the country in late 1970. They won with overwhelming majority in both national and provincial assemblies. But the Pakistani rulers, who were armed forces, naturally did not like democracy and thus refused to hand over the governing power of the country to the people's representatives. Instead they blamed the people of the eastern part and termed their charismatic leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the betrayer. The then President of the country, General Yahya Khan, himself incited his armed forces to attack his own civil people all of whom were unarmed. The brutal President desired only burnt soil in the eastern part of his country. He, along with his gangster-advisers of the then Pakistan , killed the democracy , and of course millions of people who were meant for democracy . They did it in the name Islam that they were saving the noble religion. Though there was not any single evidence found occurring by the main accused Mujib and his supporters in the then East Pakistan against Islam. On the contrary, the so-called lovers of Islam infernally killed innocent people of all ages, raped women of all ages, robbed wealth, burnt houses, destroyed anything and everything of the then East Pakistan. All they did in the name of Islam. However, in spite of their all out effort, they could not save their Pakistan , though there was nothing wrong with the noble religion Islam which was as it was all the while. The innocent people learnt quickly how to fight, resisted and finally defeated the cruel hyenas. As result a new country in the name of Bangladesh with its original national identity of BANGALEE (Bengali) emerged in the world map upon 9-month armed struggle in 1971. There were four basic pillars such as nationality , DEMOCRACY, secularism and socialism (NOT communism) of ideologies for the independence struggle of Bangladesh .
This was not the end, because the defeated gangsters started conspiracy against the newly born country Bangladesh again in the name of Islam that this religion was diminishing here. Though Mujib did every thing for Islam within his first 2 years of rule establishing the Bangladesh Islamic Foundation, registered Bangladesh as OIC Member & joined its summit in Lahore in 1974, banned anti Islamic activities like drinking, gambling, horse race etc. Also he assured other religions for their observances properly. He and his government meant religion apart from the state and politics that is the theme of secularism. However, he could not be saved a long by doing so, because the Islamist and the Pakistan lovers were deeply rooted in every corner of his state organs, and they were very powerful. Who were in Mujib's administration and in his army? Where were they and what was their role during the war of liberation of Bangladesh in 1971? Answer is simple. His bureaucrats were the same people who were the bureaucrats of Pakistan administration, his armed forces were that armed forces who were a part of Pakistan armed forces. What was their basic mentality? Again it is simple to tell. They were non-democratic by nature and so-called Islamic (made of Pakistan ) by heart. Why should they tolerate and obey secularist and democratic Mujib? As such they revolt again in the name of saving the Islam. In August 1975, they killed the founder of their country, women and children in the name of religion within a little more than three & half years of emergence of the country. Of course they killed the democracy and brought the jungle law alias the martial law that they loved much as their Pakistani priests. They demolished the secular character of the constitution and declare the Islam as the ‘state religion', which is found only of its kind to be included in a country constitution on the earth. They also followed one of their Pakistani priests (who was a self declared Field Martial) Late Ayub Khan to stage referendum in the name of establishing democracy. Side by side they nursed the Islamist groups to grow from hills to plains, urban to rural and river to ocean, i.e. each corner of the country. They chose the mosques and the madrasas that are abundantly and innumerably established in Bangladesh , as their main campus to train the new comers into Islamic militants. Also they established several camps for special military training to these militants. Now, the Islamists are penetrated in every sector of administration, armed forces, academia, financial, health, commerce and where not. As a result, now they have become the controlling factor of the country.
A bit different story! In spite of such Islamist militancy continuing in Bangladesh , there was seemed to be little achievement towards DEMOCRACY while one thug and martial law administrator Ershad was turned down from the power through a mass movement in late 1990, the first time parliamentary polls were conducted by a interim caretaker government in early 1991. Apparently a pro-Islamist party, in fact a disguised party in the name of democracy who were the most beneficiary upon the assassination of Mujib, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) came into power through this election that could bring no basic change to the country policy. This party has been originated from and rooted into the armed forces such that they are anti democracy by born and by nature. Also their founder, another martial law administrator and autocrat late Zia started nursing Islamist groups newly in Bangladesh after 1975. This party, during their rule from 1991 to 1996, became so ferocious and autocratic that they started capturing all they wished. Again, a much movement against these autocratic rulers began asking all parliament elections under a caretaker government. This time, there was a cocktail alliance among the pro-liberation parties including Awami League (AL) that led the liberation struggle in 1971, Islamist party namely Jamat-e-Islam and also another previously autocrat named Ershad. The BNP rule ended and they bowed down to the national demand of caretaker government. The fresh polls held under a caretaker government, however, there were several conspiracies to favor the then ousted BNP by their then stalwart President of Bangladesh, Abdur Rahman Biswas, who directly took part against Bangladesh liberation struggle and worked as a collaborator of Pakistani army to kill innocent people of Bangladesh. In spite of all these conspiracy, the pro-liberation party AL won the election held in mid 1996. They ruled the country for five years with more or less good governance such as they apparently tried to bring back secular character of the state policy, gained tremendous achievement in the food grains being surplus in this sector first time, resolved few long pending issues with neighboring India, cooled down insurgence of the Hill Tracts region of the country through amicable settlement, appointed few apparently neutral people instead of their (AL) own party affiliation in important constitutional positions such as President of the country, Chief Adviser of the caretaker government and the Chief Election Commissioner in order to institutionalization of DEMOCRACY and to move ahead toward a secular state etc. Again, all their impetuses were in vein due to the collaboration of anti-democratic and Islamist forces that they worked against the DEMOCRATIC and secular force in the name of saving Islam again. This time the disguised & armed forces backed BNP and the extreme Islamist parties including Jamat-e-islam made alliances along with their friends in the administration, those who were appointed by the then recent past AL government with good faith. Yes, they betrayed due their characteristics of anti-democracy and pro-Islamist. Fact is that there is little number of democratic and secularist public servant available in Bangladesh , rather, even after 33 years of its independence, there has been tremendous growing of Islamist and anti-democratic forces within the administration. There are several reasons behind the present scenario of Bangladesh as described hereunder.
There are basic two parts of mainstream discussion here such as (1) the non-secular and (2) anti-democratic characters had the state policy and admin that Bangladesh inherited to cover. The origin of non-secular polarization was rooted into the formation of Pakistan under the two-nation theory; it is very plain and simple. A country founded based on religious slogan naturally could not expect secular state policy. So the administrators and the bureaucrats in all sectors starting from civil to military were influenced and fully converted to non-secular mentality. Secondly, during the 24 years of undivided Pakistani age from 1947 to 1971, there was no real age of democracy that this country conserved. Colonial rule by inheritance from the British and then marital law dominated this whole period with no perfect constitution to govern the country. How and why should the administrators and the bureaucrats become pro-democratic? Thus they became totally anti-democratic by mentality and by heart. Emergence of Bangladesh breaking the Pakistan could not bring any real change to the admin & bureau of thugs in the newly born country. The overwhelming popularity of Mujib could just bind them hiding their original complexion. In fact Mujib had no way to change the people in his admin & army. He was in a fiasco with his administration and army most of whom were Pakistani vides non-secular & anti-democratic by their belief and inheritance characteristics. Rom cannot be built in a day; similarly one cannot change his people of admin & military overnight, thus Mujib also could not do within his three & half years of governance. After his assassination, Bangladesh just remained in the name, however revived full characteristics of its predecessor - the Pakistan . With new inspiration and with all out support & assistance from Pakistan and other fellow Muslim countries, the admin & the army started to generate their successors of non-secular & anti-democratic characters. This practice has got the geometric progression raising the country in full to the brim of non-secular & anti-democratic forces in each corner of the administration & army. In fact, they are the driving forces to run the country, not the political parties. However, they use the politicians as their shields, and they choose the politicians who better fit with their ideology.
The non-party caretaker government in Bangladesh conducts national polls with the assistance of this type of admin & army who do not want a secular and democratic state at all. How can the people of Bangladesh expect a free and fare election under them? Will not they favor the parties who are inclined to religious fanaticism and non-democratic by nature? Yes, of course.
Thus the people of Bangladesh deserve UN Team to monitor their national polls in order to establish democracy in the country with gradually back to a secular character of the state. There is no alternative.
