Beaten and tortured to death

Daily Samakal dated 18th May 2008: Rekha Das (20) is a destitute daughter of Anima and Ratan Das who worked as a made servant in the house of a rich businessman, Mokbul Hossain. Ms. Rekha was mercilessly beaten and tortured by Mokbul family on Friday, 16th May 2008. She died on way to hospital. Local people claimed that Mokbul Hossain tortured her on the allegation of stealing a mobile phone set which Mukbul Hossain denied and told that Rekha died of poisoning. Ratan Das, father of the victim filed complain at Keshabpur PS on 17th May 2008 against Mokbul Hosain, his wife Sajeda Begum & daughter Khaleda. Police took unnatural death case.
Rabindra Ghosh, Observer, Global Human Rights Defense, Dhaka, Bangladesh informed that he had spoken with Mr. Iqbal Bahar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Jessore and O.C. Keshabpur. SP assured that he would transform the case as murder as soon as the medical report goes in favor of the victim, but O.C told that the case is under section 306 which is not a murder case. People speculated that Mukbul Hossain as a powerful man may influence the medical authority to have a bias or false medical report.
