A special meeting of the Bangladeshi Hindu, Buddhist & Christian Unity Council, Europe was held in the meeting room of Pejaria restaurant hall on the New Years' Eve. The meeting was presided over by one of the BHBCUC, Europe's three co-Presidents Mr. Udayan Barua and its other Co-President Mr. Amarendra Roy, based in Switzerland , was the Chief Guest. Also present at the meeting as its Special Guest was Mrs Bonna Roy, Ms. Biva Biswas, the Secretary General for HRCBM Paris. The meeting was conducted by BHBCUC, Europe 's Country Director fro France, Mr. Subimal Dey (Samir). At the meeting a memorandum plus an 18-point Charter of Demands was created on behalf of the minorities in Bangladesh which would be submitted to all the political parties of Bangladesh with CCs to the EU parliament & parliaments of other nations which has a stake in Bangladesh , all the donor organizations, human rights organizations and relevant NGOs. Besides this the various issues were discussed in detail include: (i) how we could help the minority candidates in the forthcoming election; and (ii) security of the minorities before, during and following the election. A decision was made to launch an extensive letter writing remind the international authorities of the reign of terror that was unleashed on the minorities in 2001 and how they were disenfranchised, and urge them to take decisive measures to prevent a similar human tragedy from being reenacted.
