| A delegation of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, USA (BHBCUC, USA) met Ms. Paola Amadei, Human Rights & Democratization Unit, European Commission (EC), and External Relations Director General at the morning 18 May 2007 at her hotel suit in Manhattan. She is now attending UN session in New York. The delegation handed over to her a memorandum, a DVD, documents on persecution of minority-Indigenous-tribal people, booklets on enemy property and issues related to elections in Bangladesh & minority status. Among the delegates were Mr. Ratan Barua, President of BHBCUC, USA, Dr. Thomas D. Roy, President of BHBCUC, USA and Mr. Sitangshu Guha. Bangladesh Manabadhikar Parishad President Hakikul Islam Khokon also accompanied. The delegation informed Ms. Paola Amadei that despite the present government caretaker government (CTG) of Bangladesh accomplished few good jobs; however, it is not visible that they are making any decision and taking any step favorable for the religious minorities. In this context, the delegation raised the enemy property & CHT issue and informed her that after repeated request CTG is not doing anything on those issues. Indigenous issue was also discussed and the death of Rishil in custody and mass arrest of Garo & other tribal people came upfront. In reply, Ms. Paola told she is well aware of Rishil & Indigenous issues. She assured that while returning to Brussels she will discuss the issues with the official in charge of Bangladesh in EC Headquarters, Brussels. She also stressed that BHBCUC should contact the EC mission in Dhaka who are vigil on these issues. |
