Seminar on Atrocities on Minorities in Bangladesh

Kolkata November 12, 2006 : Guruchand Sena, a socio-religious organization organized a seminar at Palta near Kolkata on 12 November 2006 . Started at 11 am, the meting continued till 5 pm. Around 200 delegates attended the meeting. The meeting discussed two main issues of minority persecution in Bangladesh and the right of Indian Citizenship to the refugees coming from Bangladesh, specially the religious minorities. chaired the meeting that started with showing of the film by Shariar Kabir. A number of speakers from different refugee organizations and Guruchand sena leaders spoke on the occasion. Everyone spoke against the atrocities on Hindu-Buddhist Christian-aborigines in Bangladesh. They also demanded citizenship for refugees and demanded scrapping of Citizenship Act 2003 at its present form in India.

Mr. Mohit Ray of CAAMB was one of the invited guests to speak in detail on the issues. He spoke about the responsibility of the refugees to inform people in West Bengal about the continuing atrocities on the minorities in Bangladesh. He also reminded that the most of the affected people are of scheduled caste groups; however Indian scheduled caste organizations mostly remain silent about it. He spoke on the demographic changes in both the Bengals.

He said that BHBCUC has demanded voting rights for refugees and they supported it. He stressed on the continuous campaign to let people know about the situation in Bangladesh. He also demanded the repeal of Citizenship Act which prohibits citizenship to the refugees in India.
