A Buddhist Minority girl – Ms. Babita Barua has been kidnapped from the Uttara – Dhaka and converted to Islam on 23 rd of August,2005. It is reported in the daily newspaper “ Janakantha” dated 27 th August,2005 that Ms.Babita daughter of Sachindra Lal Barua and mother - of village Baruapara, P.s. Patiya, Dist.Chittagong, a student of Tongi Government College , Dhaka was kidnapped from her residence – Uttara Sadharan Bima Corporation Colony-Dhaka. The perpetrator Md. Mosharaf Hossain (30) Kamarpara, Rajarbari with the help of others of the locality informed the guardian of the victim girl over a Mobile telephone No. 0171108680 that if any case is filed in the police station they would be killed. As soon as they got phone call they informed the matter to Uttara Police station and the police took a case No.42 dated 23.08.2005 under section 7/30 of Nari-O-Shishu Nirjatan Ain-2000 against the accused.

HRCBM-Dhaka visited the Uttara Police station and the house of victim and got information that the victim girl is now safe- custody. The case is pending in the court. It is reported that the Magistrate took 164 Cr.P.C. statements of the victim in cutody.
