BANGLADESH: ISLAMISTS THREATEN THE UNVEILED
Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, the banned Islamist mu-itant group blamed for a series of recent bomb-ings and suicide attacks, said in a statement sent to a Dhaka newspaper that it would kill women, including non-Muslims, if they do not wear the veil beginning next month. The group seeks the imposition of Shariah, or Islamic law, in the most-ly Muslim nation. Tens of thousands of demon-strators protested nationwide against the vio-lence, chanting, "Suicide bombers are Islam's en-emies." (Reuters, Agence France-Presse)
